In addition to yesterday's initial details, the new Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG highlights include an AMG Performance Pack with 564HP (415kW / 556bhp) and 900Nm (664lb-ft) torque, reduced vehicle weight by 125kg (276lbs), improved AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control (ABC), new AMG speed-sensitive sports steering, AMG high-performance compound brake system and the AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 7-speed sports transmission. The Performance Pack (PP) result is 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds (4.3 sec non-PP) and to 200 km/h in 12.6 seconds (12.9 sec non-PP). Performance Pack top speed is 300km/h (186mph) unlike the non-PP which is electronically limited to 250km/h (155mph). NEDC combined consumption comes in at 9.9L/100km (28.5 mph UK / 23.8 mpg US) for both power output levels - a full 4.2-liters or 30 percent lower than for the previous generation. Engine highlights include spray-guided direct injection, all-aluminum crankcase, twin turbochargers, four valves per cylinder with camshaft adjustment, air/water intercooling, alternator management and an ECO start/stop function. The exhaust has also been weight optimised and has two chromed twin tailpipes. AMG sports suspension utilizes a 4-link front suspension and a multi-link independent rear with almost all components made of aluminum. Slightly more negative camber is dialed in for increased agility. The AMG brake system features 390 x 36mm discs with six-piston red-painted fixed calipers at the front and 360 x 26mm integral discs with single-piston floating calipers at the rear. AMG ceramic compound brake discs from the SLS AMG are available. Footwear comes in five-twin-spoke AMG light-alloy wheels painted glossy titanium grey with 255/35R-19 front and 285/30R-19 rear tires. AMG Performance Studio multi-spoke forged wheels with 255/35R-19 front and 285/30R-20 rear tires are also available in matt black. The interior is characterized by AMG sports seats in single- or two-tone nappa leather with AMG badges in the backrests, a multicontour function and heating elements as well as AMG carbon-fiber trim, AMG illuminated door sill panels, ambient lighting and an IWC-design analogue clock. The instrument cluster includes a TFT color monitor, AMG start-up display, AMG main menu and RACETIMER. Mercedes-Benz is wasting no time with special editions by simultaneously announcing the "Edition 1" to mark the launch of the SL63 AMG. The "Edition 1" includes as standard: Airscarf neck heating, matt black AMG forged light-alloy wheels, AMG Performance package, designo leather in classic red or deep white with contrasting topstitching, designo headliner in black leather, harman/kardon Logic 7 surround sound system and Magic Sky Control panoramic vario-roof. The new Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG will be launched in Germany this May with prices (incl. 19% VAT) starting at €157,675 while the SL 63 AMG "Edition 1" costs €189,269.50 and the AMG Performance package is €4280.
